Keeping Your Bun Occupied This Bank Holiday
Is your bank holiday weekend looking to be a quiet, chilled affair or more full on, with socialising or being out and about? Either way, it can be a great time to provide your bunny with a load of boredom busting, fun activities to either bond with them during your downtime or keep them occupied whilst you are busy.
We will go through some of our favourite bunny friendly, enrichment activities that will help keep your rabbit active and engaged, encouraging natural foraging instincts and a bit of fun.
Forage Boxes
One of the easiest, fulfilling activities for your bunny that requires minimum effort for maximum fun. Simply grab yourself a box - we often recommend stainless steel litter boxes as they are easy to clean - add a layer of your litter of choice (in case your bun likes to poop as they eat), and then all of your bun’s favourite hay and forage. And the best part is that it is a fun activity your bun can keep coming back to. We especially recommend this one if you are planning on being out and about a lot, as it will give your bunnies something to do whilst you are away.
There are endless possibilities and combinations of forage that you can use to keep your bunny interested. Some of our favourite combinations include:
Enrichment Toys
Stocking up on your bunny’s favourite chew toys is a sure-fire way to keep them happy and entertained. Also, the perfect choice for helping dental health and overall wellbeing. Chewing is a very important activity for rabbits as it not only helps to wear down their constantly growing teeth, but it also a natural stress buster. As a natural, instinctive behaviour, it supports your bunny’s wellbeing, ensuring they are calm and happy.
Some toys, such as our Natural Nibbles Hay Rack or Play Tunnel, are also great for stuffing with hay + forage to add an extra dimension of enrichment.
Cardboard Tubes
Got some spare toilet roll tubes around? These are the easiest choice for some fun enrichment. Stuff with hay + treats and leave them lying around your bunny’s area. Some of our favourite treats to include are:
Cardboard Box
Leftover hay box? Cut a couple of openings so your bun can get in and out and remove all the tape. A little hideaway for your bunny to enjoy, which may be particularly beneficial if you are having visitors over during bank holiday weekend. It is a great natural chew project for your bunny to enjoy and destroy. You can also add a little bit of hay and forage inside if you fancy an upgrade.
